Here's something to get you started:

quote:
Warhead Assembly. The Warhead Assembly includes a fuze booster, transfer lead (WAU-17 warhead only), Safe-Arm Device (SAD), and the main explosive charge. The warhead assembly is located between the guidance section and control section. It is connected electrically to the guidance section by a SAD cable. At launch, a thrust-activated mechanism in the SAD starts the arming cycle. When the missile receives a launch signal, voltage is applied to unlock the arming mechanism. As the missile accelerates, the arming rotor turns, aligning the explosive train and removing the shorting circuit. This completes the firing circuit. Detonation is triggered by a fuze pulse from the active RF fuzing circuit in the guidance section at the nearest point of intercept or by an impact switch located in the control section.
WAU-10/B and WAU-10A/B Warhead Assembly. The WAU-10/B Warhead Assembly includes a MK-71 Mod 0 Warhead Section with a MK-33 Mod 0 SAD and MK-33 Mod 1 fuze booster. The WAU-10A/B Warhead Assembly is similar to the WAU-10/B except it has a MK-38 Mod 2 fuze booster. Both warhead assemblies are of the insulated continuous-rod type.
WAU-17B and WAU-17A/B Warhead Assembly. The WAU-17B Warhead Assembly includes a WDU-27B Warhead Section with a MK-33 Mod 0 SAD, a MK-38 Mod 1 fuze booster, and a MK-26 Mod 0 transfer lead. The WAU-17A/B Warhead Assembly is similar to the WAU-17B except it has a MK-38 Mod 2 fuze booster. The transfer lead extends the explosive train from the SAD to the fuze booster. Both warhead assemblies are of the end-initiated blast fragmentation type.

This just has to be Kap!

Hey the continuous rod warhead.. Its designed to blast out in a complete circular diameter from the center of the rod to equally bombard a lethal circle around the warhead with fragments..

Here is what China Lake has to say about it (Spent 3 years of my life in this hell hole in the late 60s while my Dad designed solutions to other people's screwups!)

"Arena firing of continuous-rod warhead, 1972; extremely effective against aircraft, the continuous-rod warhead is a single bar of metal explosively expanded into a sort of flying buzzsaw; China Lake developed warheads for a variety of missiles, including Sidewinder and Sparrow"

I MUST apologize to everyone for bringing this vermin here to our little world . He is a documented inveterate liar and must be shunned at all costs!! DONT BELIEVE HIS LIES!! Especially the ones about ME!!! I have NO idea who this "kap" person is( although with a name like that he MUST be of HIGH intellect and integritty, and have the abillity to transcend mortality at his own whim) , or if he even exists( probly just another of his delusions). LOL ok folks this is CAG Hotshot, he IS from my Fighters Anthology family and he IS a bit of a hotshot, but he's a mostly good guy and knows his stuff (at leaste when he's agreeing with me), he was an A-4 jocky if I remember right. When did the USN stop flying A-7's?

right after ODS, remember the A-7 from the "Blue Hawks" in desert camo with "Desert Storm" painted on the wings. IIRC they even had it trailered down the street for that welcome home parade in NYC.

A-4, A-7 , A-10, who cares, 3 solid aircraft getting the job done WITHOUT afterburners

----------------

After Desert Storm, same time frame they started parking A-6s too. Davis Monthan is starting to get filled up. Tomcats and 141s are arriving weekly now too. Along with older Hercs.

Ok zoomies...........field this one.

I read that the A-7's only real weakness as an attack aircraft, was its slow "pop-up" profile thanks to the lack of a burner...Didn't the fleet even call it the "climb of death"? The F-18 excells in that situation. But that aside, does the A-7 compare favorably to the A-10? and could a modified A-7 had done the same job........seems to me the only inheret weakness of ther A-7 design is the lack of double redundancey in the powerplant department, an A-10 can take a SAM hit up the tailpipe, where an A-7 can not..........

loiter time would be a big differance too. In the fly off after they flew a 260 mile mission the A-7 stayed on station for 11 minits but the A-10 hung around for 2 hours more!!

BTW Chad your gonna have to have a talk with CAG regarding the F-14, he just dosent think it's any good at all. <>

You got another old squid here as well! Used to watch F-4's, F-14's, A-6's and A-7's take off of the Enterprise on my first WESPAC (from a real ship of course, Cruiser for you non squids). I got to see F-18's on my second WESPAC. An old high school buddy of mine who was an Aviation Electrician on the Big E let me get up close and personal with an F-14 on the hangar deck one day while docked in Subic....
