I finally have some high-quality prints available of my A-10 artwork available for sale through Zazzle, so I thought I'd share the love:

http://www.zazzle.com/a_10_warthog_tank_plinking_in_iraq_print-228229407812667946?rf=238201734224244976

Zazzle enables you to purchase in a variety of sizes and on all sorts of media, including canvas, and you can order them framed or unframed.

Enjoy!

lame...

What the hell does this mean...

A-10's of the 23rd TFW \"Flying Tigers\" tank-busting in the first Gulf War. During the hasty mobilization for the conflict there was no time to repaint the planes, which were camouflaged for European flora. :?: :?:

Are you talking about gulf war I or II ??

However, I don't recall there being a plan to paint the aircraft at that time. They didn't start painting them until after GWI

There wasn't any \"Re-painting idea\" in the works for the 23rd that I know of, and I was there.
The ONLY thing discussed was whether or not to \"Remove\" the Teeth [shock] [shock] [cuss] [bs]

Which was \"Rebutted\" because the 23rd had ALWAYS wore their teeth since they started the 23rd. Plus if your low enough FOR THEM to see you, Your Doing your JOB!

They had done a \"Survey\" before the war started to see if \"During an Iraqi Air Attack\" would KFIA and the A-10's be easy to spot on the ground\"? They were talking about \"Netting being put up\".
They had a \"Re-Con Jet\" that We never could get a straight answer too, Fly over KFIA and take pictures of the area.

After the \"Big Shots\" looked at the Photo's they discovered 2 things
1. Tent city was just about \"Invisible\" due to the Tents fading and blowing sand covering them

2. The Euro-1 paint jobs on the Asphalt basically made the A-10 look like part of the \"Asphalt \" it was hard for them to be \"Picked Out\" flying over.
So the Netting Idea was scraped .

But if you were thinking that the \"USAF\" had ideas about \"Repainting the A-10 \" That wasn't even talked about in the Wing.

Besides before August 2nd 1990 , They were still talking about the \"Army\" taking over the A-10.

That's very interesting. The primary reason I even made the comment about the paint job is because when I initially posted the art on my website, I was badgered by people who couldn't understand why the hawgs wore the lizard paint and assumed I was simply a misinformed hack for painting them that way.

I'll reword the caption before someone starts bleeding from the eyeballs or something.

I'd think about \"editing\" that

I can't now, you quoted it LOL.

Not trying to make it personal, Dice, just trying to keep things light. Apologies if I misspoke. It's hard to be funny in print. Now you can see why none of my cartoons have words...

The Alconbury guys did discuss repainting the jets before deploying. They painted one aircraft using some RAF desert paint that was non-permanent but it was rejected by CENTAF leadership. The reason it was rejected was the same reason given for no LASTE jets being deployed: they wanted one A-10 configuration so that no one was confused and logistics would be simplified.

No one really pressed the issue hard.

Fritz, it's cool I was in a bad mood the day I saw your post and it just hit me wrong. Seems the only time we see you is when you're trying to sell us something...

Sadly, that's probably true. I'm not really trying to spam the board...I just thought it was something visitors here would be interested in. Sometimes it's hard for me to know when I've crossed the fine line between sharing and advertising.

The problem with creating art on a freelance basis is that I'm my own marketing department. I hate it, and I'm terrible at it. I really just want to sit around and make art, and not have to play that role...but if I don't hustle, I don't make money, and suddenly I have no more time to make art because I'm flipping burgers somewhere to make ends meet. So hawking my wares has just become sort of instinctive over the years.

Ironically, I always favored freelancing over more commercial applications of my talent because I didn't want to work in an ad agency. Money corrupts everything :-(

Anyway, apologies and I'll try to leave the amway products at home.

Fritz, it's all good, like I said it just cauch me at the wrong time and I did think it was borderline spam. Add your site to your signature so it's posted everytime you make a post, that's how most of us do it.

Sure, feel free. I'll be happy to return the favor.

You're welcome to post any interesting warthog artwork of mine on your site, as well. I've got some A-10 wallpaper on my site which I'm happy to share.

Ditto this site.

I have profile art, too. Eventually I should have multiple profiles of all the major unit's aircraft, as soon as I get around to it. (That's the plan, anyway.
So many planes, so little time...) For now, I just have profiles of am Arizona Razorbacks and one of the Tigers. If anyone wants to help me research markings for the others, let me know. I'm always looking for good reference books. I've got one good reference guide, AirTime's book of Modern Battlefield Airplanes, which lists a good rundown of the various units, but digging up all the insignia art and good reference photos is a time consuming chore I have yet to embark upon.

Fritz, there may be one or two that would take exception to the profile being of an ARIZONA Razorback. You might consider changing that to ARKANSAS.

Cool, thanks. I'll reciprocate.

Good news! I'm finally almost finished making profiles of a bunch of A-10's representing most of the active fighter wings. Now the fun part: I get to decide what to do with them. I was thinking about making a poster with all the hawgs on them, or perhaps making individual shirts for each wing. Perhaps slapping them on some mugs. Dunno. I'll post the art here soon for a spot check on my markings and to find out if I missed any units. (I've been relying on two books and the web for reference, so I could easily have overlooked something. I'm sure there have been some units disbanded that I don't have yet.) In any event, the art should be useful for something. (This is typical of how I work, BTW. I decide I want to create some art, obsessively pursue it while my paying jobs pile up, and then try to figure out just what earthly good it is. Born businessman, that's me...)

I'll be happy to make low-rez copies of the art available for hawg-lovers who want to post the art on their own websites, of course. Stay tuned...

Fritz, being called Arizona instead of Arkansas is an honest mistake. Our intials (AR) for Arkansas is often mistaken for Arizona (AZ). Countless parcels of mail are lost daily by this mistake.

I really enjoy your work! Keep it up.

Cool, thanks! Hopefully I will have some new Hawg artwork soon for everyone to enjoy.

BTW, I've earned new respect for Hawg ground crew now that I've begun to experience second hand the sheer quantity of rivets, screws and fasteners this plane actually has. It has more bumps on it than my high school class picture!
