Nothing against the unit, good for them,...but this pisses me off. Willow Grove's slim chance to hang on to their hogs just went to zero. Sure, let's get ready another unit that won't be operationally ready for a few years, just when the A-10 is needed the most......argh :x @#$* BRAC!

One of the big reasons for the change is that F-16's are getting older, and there's less money to keep them going in the future. Base officials say the service life of the jets is ending earlier than expected.

The F-16 is getting older... wow don't they realize the A-10 is a lot older than the F-16... come on people say what you really mean, the F-16 was a piece of crap and the AF now realizes it's mistake and wants to get ride of them. Ugh, no pointy nose jets allowed

Well instead of giving them to Ft Wayne,

How about let's say ah, I don't know GRISSOM AFB IN a place
where atleast the HOG ONCE LIVED DAMN IT!!!.

Reading this story sounds like \"Gee well I guess we'll suck it-up until we get the NEW F-35;s and the A-10 is bigger and slower but they do about that same thing ??????????

WAKE-UP YOU POINTY NOSE 9 to 5 BRAC DESK JOKEY'S(I meant that spelling) You don;t even have FT SMITH Up yet and the Tally Boys are fixing to do some ASS KICKING if we don't have alot of PORK FLYING in those AFGANNY SKYs come the next 45 days Those radios are going to be Full of Calls for \"Hogs\" and those Guys over there can only answer so many at a time.

You have atleast 1000 ex Hog Keepers out of a Job with 20+ years of exp. each and Combat Exp to boot looking for work let alone 500 or more probably Hog drivers that would \"Strap on a Hog\" and show then how its done.

They really have FU THE USAF the last 18 years since the end of the Gulf War which is today really, time differance. We could of finished it then.

I hope you're wrong Goose but I suspect you've got it nailed. Hopefully this one will go better than Ft. Smith though judging from the article I doubt that it will.

It seems the units that covert from the lawn dart to the hog look at it as a consolation prize rather than what it really is. Instead of being excited about the mission and the airframe it seems to be a \"oh well, at least we've got SOMETHING\" mentality. It'll be interesting to see how the commanders handle it.

Chief,

I have ears on whats the people on Ft Smith have been saying and it isn't what you say \"Hey We got a Mission, At Least WE STILL HAVE A JOB and the A-10 IS A BAD ASS MOTHER F---\"
We're sick and tired of hearing \"How Great the A-10 is and Blah Blah Blah\"

It's more like \"Man I hate these Ugly \"(*^&*%^%^%%$$%$%##$#$ pieces of Shit\" I wish we had our Vipers Back.\"

It's more like they despise it , I'm getting second hand but I consider it pretty reliable and when I was at Griss last time there's some [mad] [bs] feeling still even though their pushing the KC-135's still. They miss the Hog there too.

But Come On, An A-10 unit , Converting from a F-16 to a A-10 should be like going from a 2009 Caddy to a 1967 Ford Straight 6 with a 3 speed as far as fixing it.

Hell If I could go from a Teeny Weenie Air Taxi to an A-10 with nothing but OJT and Slide shows I slept threw and used the cheat sheet to copy for my first 5 months working the line and my first \"Formal \"MAT\" Class on the A-10 was Dedicated Crew Chief Training so anyone who worked an F-16 can be up and Qualified on a A-10 in no more than 60 days.

Hell I was given 30 days to get up to speed on Trash Haulers and I was running Third shift and Expediting plus signing off Red-X's we were short handed. I ain't that damn Smart. (Keep your Comments to yourselfs)

So theirs No Damn Excuse, EVERYONE HERE ALONG with Us back in 90in the Gulf and every Unit during the 90's and during this war, you went from a basically bare bones base and you did your Job, scrounging parts, equipment, you MADE DO.

So there's No excuses on whats going on there. or the \"TUDE\",

Give them the C-21's their fast I'm sure theirs a lot of A-10 base's that were \"BRAC'ed\" That would have them back up in the Air and MISSION READY in 90 days just give them the word.
Leaves a Bad taste still today on what they did 30 days after the sand in our underwear was finally coming out when they Chopped England, Beach, Bent waters,

Goose, you are the man! You summed it up perfectly!

It really sucks how it seems from the article, that they are viewing this as just a 'temporary' untill they get their precious F-35, which IMHO I think is going to be a huge bust.

Seriously, it sounded too like so much political BS is involved, after reading that article. Who's @$$ did that congressman kiss to get this deal??

And the worst line of the entire article,
\"The A-10's are bigger and slower than the F-16's but they're just as capable.\"

Just as capable huh? @#$! You!

When we were up a KKMC the F-16 crews that showed up to do turns Couldnt even set their own tents up. We had to do that for them .All they could do was complain about all the drit and gravel on our taxiways. OH and were really pissed when they found out we DID NOT have beer, seems they could drink in the UAE. F-16 units dont deserve A-10s, let them wait for the F-35

Hogfixer, if you're successful in making sense out of anything to do with BRAC 2005, please, enlighten all of us. The A-10 moves have been a special kind of stupid and it may not be over yet. Wait until the airframe swaps start, the screaming from the Guard and Reserves will be brutal.

Carl,

They Whine at \"Club KFIA\" too, that's why we hot-pitted them until the end of the war.
Hey a 20 min class, that was it, it was another 2hours of a 12-14 hour shift.

But Our Pilots told us \"Give those Lawn Darts Pilots Shit\" when they come Thur.
So we did \"Hello Sir, My, What Big Bombs You Have???? What only 2??\"
\"Sir I'd Offer you a Beer but, We're in a Dry Parish Here\".
\"Oh , We don't do windows or accept checks from Pointy Nose Pilots.\"

Hell it was something to do.

Goose

I can understand where you're all coming from, but I will tell you most of the MX and pilots are very excited about getting A-10s in FWA. Personally I can't wait! I worked Phantoms in the late 80s and early 90s. I'm an F-16 CC now and it's just not the same as working a kick ass machine like a Phantom or even a Hawg. Not to say our 16s didn't do their job but we want to get back in the fight and the current major fight requires the Hawg.

The timeline we've heard is possibly next spring and training may begin as early as this fall.

As far as the F-35 list...I believe every F-16 base was put on that list. With the \"new\" A-10Cs we'll get I doubt we'll be getting rid of them any time soon.

I hate to see any base lose their acft but there's nothing we can do about that. I'm glad we're getting A-10s and I hope we can do you guys proud. 20 years of 16s without a single acft lost and many combat missions flown and iron on target...not too shabby.
