Do I think I'm missing anything - you take a guess.

Fastest production Renault 5 I can find is 201kph, which is about 37kph short of the CSX's 148mph, verified by radar by Motor Trend magazine. (Flat-Out Fastest American Cars II, June 1989)

As for the GM Astra VXR, I never said it was still the fastest car.

As for the 79hp/l, remember it started life as a K-Car engine making 92hp.

I'm not attacking the Mopar in anyway actually. I like virtually anything with more HP than it should have. :-P

I pulled no stunt at all. Did you watch the video i posted?

172mph timed, at salt flats. A world record at that time.

I bet a 928S4 (or any 928 with the S4 braking package- or for that matter any decent contemporary sportscar) can stop from 100mph in less distance than the SRT10 stops from 60. ;)

Though in an accident, i'd go with the big truck. :)

In a drag race the pickup would crush any year stock 928, in a top end challenge all but the earliest 928s would prevail, and on any kind of a road or race course with turns, a 928 of any year would utterly dominate a SRT10 or lightning or Syclone, or any truck. ;)

Apart from missing out the words \"was\" and \"once\"

I can remember that run and quoted the same thing to folks who thought Lambo's were the fastest. But it was a hell of a long time ago.

When making statements it's what you miss out that's the most important..!

Well obviously a car that was discontinued 12 years ago has been surpassed by the lastest and greatest the world of autmotive makers has to offer. :)

The final model of 928, the GTS, was capable of 188mph. (The latest 911 turbo does 205mph i think) Heck your average LS-2 powered cadillac can eclipse a buck sixty now.

One thing a 928 will always have that new cars don't (and will never again- ever), is the feeling of DRIVER control. Mine has no ABS, no traction control, no 'electronic' assists....it's just pure man-machine interface, mechanical 4 wheel steering, limited slip diff, and a perfect 50/50 weight balance. A true \"drivers car\".

I love it. :)

Well I'm sure the Ram has a few more pounds on her that the 928. And you're right, it's not made for the twisties, but that's besides the point. For a truck, it's pretty sweet. And makes REALLY NICE tire marks on the road!

Perhaps in the States, but here in Blighty we are still allowed to kill ourselves in cars without the manufacturers being worried about the lawyers.

Here we make and can buy...

Caterhams
Westfields
Morgans
Ariel Atoms
TVR's

All of which have not one bit of driver assist and some of them push over 400bhp per tonne

And they are as close to track day cars as you can get. The Atom doesn't even have any body work, just an exoskeleton. If that floats your boat than I can 100% understand and agree.

If that's where it starts and ends then fine.

I have lots of things that I love that are total piles of shit but I don't pretend they are anything else. It's a pile of crap but I love it and I don't expect you to give a toss about it.

Some folk have a pile of crap that they love, but then try to convince others that it's something special. They need the odd wake up call to keep them on Planet Sanity. And I'm not stupid - I'm not talking about Snipe

Hehehehe

I always thought Mopar should've made a turbo II rampage, but alas, they never did. That would've been a fun little vehicle. Of course the problem with all those little Turbo4 K-car variants is that they were all FWD.

I hate FWD in performance vehicles.

The one Chrys turbo 4 that i'd actually want (in really good shape) would be a really nice top end Turbo-4 convertible LeBaron. They were pretty nice cars back in the day. I have a 95 LeBaron GTC convertible for my daily driver, but it's the later V-6 model.

Hi 44,
those are fast cars on the track... damn fast
I see a lot of them at the Ring.
Well everybody has his preferences - I think a car has to be fast on a track with a lot of turns. Then it´s a good car.
