As some of you know, I've been venturing into a new realm and trying to design some t-shirts. I thought since most of you are the targeted market (active duty / retired military / military avation fan) I'd post a picture of my latest design to get some feedback.

Image

Some of the questlions I have are...

1. Should the image be on the front or back? I know my personal preferance is on the back but I'd like to know what the majority say.

2. What could I do to improve it?

3. Would you buy it?

Lil Hitler, hope i can help with your ideas.
What i say are mine personal meanings:
1.Backprint (big) and a front print (small). For ideas, see the website for the Hawgsmoke 2008. They have shirts with big backprint and small frontprint. (i have them allready for years)
2.Make a special Warthogshirt. Themes like \"30years\", \"special painted plane\", \"picture of complete plane with picture of doorart\". \"a side picture with cockpit and nose-art (not the whole plane)\" Good text and picture is always good for sale. example \"Fly Slow? Nobody beats mine fast bullets!\" or \"30 years Ugly, but loved by who need him\" or \"I survived.....(names of planes that are gone from his generation like Tomcat\"
3.If you want mine money, I want a shirt. I have now 4 different A-10 shirts.

So i hope you can something with it. Maybe is it totally crap those ideas what i have, but it is something.

Nice design Hitler.
My thoughts might be what has already been overkill on the market maybe, and that would be a 23rd jet nose on in the center of the shot.

What you have here would of course be on the back.

Across the left breast would be some motto specific to yourself as the designer, or leave it at Flight Chief Aviation.

WOuld I buy it......yes. I am looking to buy a few A-10 and Air Force related shirts, although I can never find them big enough or that they dont shrink.
I'm just a little fella and need's me a little fella t-shirt!
I'm gonna need atleast a 3X if not larger due to shrinkge.

Definetly back print with a real small breast print in front only. fat people hate front prints. I love it the way it is but I would an A-10 moto like \"Cry havoc and let slip the Hawgs of war\" or \"If you cant go fast go ugly\" But yes I would buy some.

First these are my opinions and are only meant in a constructive way.

Design on the back for sure.
It does need some type of logo or saying
Yes I would buy it without an changes.

To me the A-10 gets “lost” in the design somehow and I think it’s the brick wall background. Is the wall meant to say something about the A-10? If not I would at least “clean-up” the circle with the A-10 in it or at the very least fade the wall a bit to bring-out the aircraft more.
I’ve always believed an aircraft related shirt, or poster for that matter, should be non-unit related, opening sales to all units past, present. And future. I believe you may lose a lot of potential customers by placing any unit with such easily recognizable nose art as Pope or Barksdale on your shirt…it will limit your sales.

IMHO only 8)

Nice work Hitler! I love the approach, kind of like a sign you might see painted on a wall of a hanger at an old airport.

A slogan at the bottom would really add something to the design I think. I also agree, it should be a back print, being an ORFF.

The nose art really doesn't bother me that much. I did my Hawg time at DM, and though we didn't have that same paint job, it does look great. I can understand what Dice is talking about though.

I'd buy it. Be sure to post once you are up an running with it.

I echo Dice's thoughts about the brick/wood panels cover up too much of the shot. Can you remove those lines to show what it would look like?

I like the layout, one thought that when you have a large back print like these types of shirts, they make you sweat something wicked as it doesn't allow you to breath.

Not sure what you might have already laid out for printing, but cafepress has an okay set up with no over head. Print on demand and no cost for the store, but you are limited to one design per shirt type.

I need to purchase a larger store to get more options for aircraft on the backs to keep everyone happy!

Thanks for the feedback; I have incorporated several of the suggestion and am now working on a logo design for the front of the shirt.

The original ideal was/is to have it look like a painting you would find on an old hanger, as Ice Pirate pointed out. I think if I change the color of the wood (white / gray) or go out and take a picture of an old barn it may tone it down a little. If not then I will eliminate the effect in the A-10 itself if it’s making it a distraction.

As for Dices suggestion about a being non-unit related. I think I have that issue solved, Three different shirts, same design but offering an image of a BD, FT or a non-descriptive aircraft and let the buyer decide which one they prefer.

TG, I will be offering it through Cafepress since there are no out of pocket expenses other than the time invested. Additionally it allows for potential sells via their website to a much larger market than I would be able to reach. As for the one design per shirt per store, that is a drawback. However, you can open as many stores as you like (IE /topgun1 /topgun2 /topgun3) and then link to them from your primary website.

aaah the wonders of cafepress. I too have a storefront and there's even a couple of Hog related items in there. If the plan is to get funds for a charity maybe it's possible for us to band together? The funds would be donated under the common flag of the Warthog territory? Just a thought.

I like cafepress and it works well as a no overhead type of operation. I haven't had any problems since starting with them a couple of years ago. There is a \"bast price\" for items and it's basically what they need to cover their costs it's up to the individual as to how much to mark it up.

If you take a look you should be able to figure out where the USAF related stuff is.

Guy

btw if you are thinking of using the well known hog holding the gun, I believe that image is from an illustrator named Hank Caruso. Good guy but he's a hardliner when it comes to seeing his stuff on things he didn't do. Just an FYI.

Lil Hitler, what is the shirt color? Black or white or if that is a color Airforce Blue? Also a thing to think about.
I hope you make a good shirt.

Well I think I'm done, I've got the logo for the front of the shirt. As for the wood background, I couldn't get the look I was after, so I decided to do away with it for now. Here's a sample of what the logo looks like and the design that will be on the back of the shirt.

Aceart - I'd love to get together and do one for chairty..

Dutchy, the shirt color depends on what cafepress offers (which is most colors) and what you like.

I've bought several A-10 related T-shirts from cafepress and never had a problem with any shrinkage . What I've seen their good quality I'd have to look I got about 10 different ones . I'll have to add this one too.

Hey Billy, I liked back prints when I was \"Skinny too\" so its not just us \"
Height Challenged for our weight\" that like them on the back [lol] [lol]

I like it but what about Bosnia? All those Aviano trips in the 90's were for Bosnia operations. We did Kosovo in 99.

And what about 1983 Grenada?

My compliment for the backprint. It looks much better than the first.
Don't use a black shirt. I think this one looks better on (light-)blue or white. I think it gonna be a succes!

Ummm, the correct spelling is A-f-g-h-a-n-I-s-t-a-n, not A-f-g-h-a-n-A-s-t-a-n

And don't leave out all them good ol boys who flew her in 'Nam!!! [lol]

And hey, TopGun, you know you can open as many stores at Cafepress as you want for free. That way you can get more than 1 design on 1 type of shirt. For example, open one as \"topgun\", a second as \"topgun2\", etc etc. Maybe check that out before \"buying\" a bigger store.

A-f-d-u-s-t-i-s-t-a-n... ain't that the truth [lol]

Ok corrected the spelling and added Grenada and Bosnia.

One thing about light colored Shirts, unless I change the white color to a light gray, the areas that are white will be the same color of the shirt. This is due to cafepress' printing process. They do not print white on light colored shirts.

Thanks, I didn't think they would allow that, but I'll do that for now.
