This month in Airforce Monthly. The writer Robert F. Dorr give his top 6 CAS planes. It is based on the services in Afghanistan and Iraq. In the magazine also written why the top six should be this.

Bob Dorr is an idiot. Does this mean the plain old A-10A is not in the top 6?

Surely the British Harrier GR7/9 should have been included, if only in with the US version at number 6, the RAF and FAA are doing their bit in Afghanistan, and the RAF Harriers performed well in Kosovo in 99.

Some odd choices, but I agree with number 1.

No mention of the A-1 Skyraider, nor the Ju87 Stuka, which is bullshit! Either this bozo needs to expand his list, or include some of the most influential close air support aircraft ever built!

Cheers! M2

I didn't know that the Skyraider and Stuka also fought in Afghanistan and Iraq.
That was the qualification for this list.
And like any list, it is always on personal feelings.
But so what. The A-10 is number ONE!!!

But maybe we have to made our own list.
It is up to you if it is based on the list of the writer or do we made an overall list thru the history?

Well I got to agree if he is going to use the\" A-10 Plus and A-10C\" titles then he must think the

'Old Hog\" isn't worth her \"Salt\"

You can take the most Advanced Jet in the world, put a \"Ok Driver in it\" than take a \"Older Version Jet\" with a \"SHIT HOT\" Stick with \"Hundreds of Combat Hours\"

The \"Experiance and Proven Jet\" will win.

Bells and Whistles are nice, but Gizmo's fail.

What The A was only #1 in GW1???

Not a lot of difference between a plain A model and a Plus. Upgrades to ease pilot workload and a far superior video from the targeting pod and AGM/TGM pretty much covers it. Had the Air Force endorsed the Plus being certified for PGM it would be a different story. He should've just said the A-10A and A-10C.

Looking at the list, is there anything there that hasn't served in Afghanistan and Iraq? And really, a Lawn Dart as a CAS platform? Didn't they try that 20 years ago? Anybody remember Fast Ass CAS?

Wasn't the Fast Ass CAS a motto of the F-16 unit up in Syracuse ? Or was that a blanket mottto for all F16 units ?

I second the motion! Although the C model may allow us to drop different weapons as well as utilize other new technology, it certainly doesn't change the way we do CAS. Number one is not the A-10C, A-10A or A-10A Plus, it's the A-10!

What about the Strike Eagle? They do a pretty good job, better than the Apache, who doesn't do CAS at all.

You wouldn't be talking about \"The Boys from Syracuse \" would you Billy?

The whole thing is \"When is a Helicopter a \"Plane\"?????
Why didn't the \"Editors catch that and change it to \" CAS Aircraft\"?

So scratch the Helo's and insert the F-15E and the B-52's

But A-10 is an A-10, I really don't think you Guys fight over the \" Plus, C or the \"Old One\"

Hey I got more rank than you, I want the \"C\" model, you can have the \"A\".

I'd been happy with the \"Old Girl\" with the \"SAT-Link , New Radios and \"Better Engines\".

Looks like everything the A-10A has done in the past 30 years is going to be forgotten now that the "C" model is in the field. :(
