This is the first one of two videos taken from the gun camera of the A10 during a demo flight on May 7, 1988 by the (at the time) East Coast A10 Demo Team from England Air Force Base, Louisiana. Piloted by Capt. \"Mo\" Rolph. Maintenance Crew was: SSGT Tony Spufera <sp?> and SSGT Paul Dunning.

If you've ever wanted to see what flying the A10 was like from the pilot's perspective, this is a video to watch. The second video will be posted in a few days. It's about 12 minutes long, and is about a 34MB download. If I can find some place to host a streaming version of these videos, I'll update the links.

Here's a link to the streaming version of the video:

That is fantastic. Thanks for that. This is not the position of what we normally see from a demo. :D

Glad you enjoyed it. There's one more demo video. I haven't gotten it ready to upload yet. I'll probably have it up by this coming Monday.

As a side note, the reason Capt. Rolph was narrating what he was doing during the demo, is for any (perish the thought) accident investigation. If something bad were to happen, the investigation team would have a narrative as well as a visual record of what he did.

As far as the type of camera used in that video, from what I understand, the video recording system in the A-10 has been considerably upgraded since that video was shot. I hope any current Hog maintainers/drivers on here can confirm that. The old VTR system used a big video tape cartridge similar somewhat to the VHS/Betamax systems. Of course, they were black and white. I think the current systems are color.

Gives you a good idea of what the pilot is experiencing while he or she is flying.

They did do away with the old style VTR and moved it to the cockpit. Strange to here Paulie refered to as a SSgt and is Capt. Rolph the same one that was the Commander at Moody?

I don't know if it's the same Rolph or not. I don't know his given first name, so I'd be no help on that question. He was a pilot out of either the 74th or 75th FS, I believe.

So, you knew Paul "Yo!" Dunning? He was an interesting individual to work with.

Yeah, worked with Paul in QA for about 4 years and then on the civilian side working T-38's, I have a lot of respect for that man. He's still working out and doing those one handed push-ups. Last I heard he's up at Robbins now.

I remember one of our TDYs to Germany, Paul managed to get himself kicked out of every NCO club wherever we were at, from the Azores to Germany, to.... :D

\"Rocky\" tried to take on the Reserve Unit that was Flying
A-37's out at Air Warrior with us in 86. Some 2nd LT told him that \"The Reserves Fight the Wars and You Active duty guys stay home\". Rocky said \"Yo, In Nam we did the Fighting\"
the LT made the Mistake of calling \"Rocky a Liar\" \"Your a Liar,You weren't in Nam, Don't feed me that Crap Sarge\"
This was at the \"Green Tree\" If you ever been to GAFB Ca. Victorville You know what I'm talking about.
Rocky was about to \"Pound Him into the Ground\" until \"Hambone\" and Major Butler or Green \" 1 of Our Nam Jocks
(Sandy Pilots)
Told that 2nd Lt \" You better buy Sgt Dunning a Drink Lt, He served in Vietnam before you started going to PreSchool \"

Remember he always said \"23rd Airbrone!!!!!\"

What a Man for the Troops to look up too. Hell he should be in the Basic Training Book, as part of USAF history. He did something Very Few if anyone else did served for that many years over that long of a time period.

I remember the story about when he showed up at the gate at England Air Force Base when he re-enlisted after being out of the service for nine years. He showed up at the gate in the only uniforms he had, the ones from the Vietnam era. Needless to say, the SP at the gate probably had his doubts about whether Paul was supposed to be there or not.
