Hello,

I need to ask an A-10 pilot or maintenance personel for some advice. Im building the Trumpeter A-10 and need some info for the cockpit. On the windscreen, above the HUD there are two instruments. The one on the pilots right is a magnetic compass, but the left? (VSI, Radar Altimeter?)Additionally, the Verlinden cockpit upgrade I bought has three handles that are placed just under the glare shield. They look like engine fire handles, but there are three there. Engines & APU fire handles? I'm not sure the A-10 even has an APU...
I was at Oshkosh this past summer and had some great A-10 cockpit pictures but I seem to have lost them. If anyone can help with the above information I would be greatful.

Thank you,
Erik

The two instruments mounted high are the Standby Compass and the G-Meter. The G-Meter is on the left. The three fire shut-off T-Handles are exactly that. One for each engine and the center one for the APU.

Thanks Inkjet. I appreciate the information. Im working on the ACES II seat right now and I'm sure many of you have seen the site, but check out www.ejectionsite.com if anyone is interested in ejection seat facts/trivia.

After reading the posts here, it seems many of you are military personel. If anyone knows how to contact our guys in Afganistan, I would love to send them a thank you.

Two final questions (I promise!): Does anyone know where I can get a dummy round from the GUA-8 cannon. I know its a long shot, but I had to ask...second, what is the max. G's an A-10 can pull with ordinance attached? I fly Cessna's and have never had anything hanging off the airplane. Does this decrease the amount of G's you can pull or are the hardpoints and bomb attachments strong enough to withstand high G maneuvers (where is spell checker when you need it...)?

Thanks,
Erik

Eric, not sure what the actual max is, but I do know my A10 when I Was in Korea had a write-up for an Over G, had to do a special inspection because of the pilot (not bad mouthing pilots, love the jackets ....jk...I have the utmost respect for any pilot!) Reason being was he ECM pod, other than that, I'm not sure of the limits. I'm sure someone on here knows more than I do...been away from actually working the hog for a few years...

Book says 7.33 is the max positive G the A-10 is able to withstand. There are some stores (i.e. fuel tank, long pod) that limit the Gs a pilot can pull while maneuvering.

7.33 is the max G rating. It can only be reduced due to stores loading.

IN essence snipe, Grab your size midget black cadilacs and hang them from your Tea Bag..run really really fast, and make a sharp turn around a corner. Im sure after all the Noises and sounds your Frame will make..You would be Doing a Code 3 Inspection and possibly a depo Repair. Hows that for a clearly spelled out Explanation in Gruntese?

What this means snipe is that The airframe is designed to withstand so many g's clean ( nothing hanging) When you hang ordnance on a Lever at various points, Its Mass/Inertia Creates higher loads exponentialy the further down the wing it is. Weight and Distance from the pivot point on a Lever is a demon. Its a truly erie sound to hear in flight...all the titanium and aluminum stressing..BTDT.

I have a similar question like Erik's. Above the G-meter and the Standby compass there are 2 brownish diagonal cards with text on it.
For making an accurate A-10 cockpit for a flightsimulator I am looking for the text displayed there. I assume it is a SOP list for landing and take off, just don't know what it says...
Any help is really apreciated, thanks in advance!

Those are locally produced checklist plates. They are not standard on all A-10s. No active duty A-10s have those.

THANKS COACH,
I WAS STUMPED!!! I LOOKED AT PICTURES AND THEN NOTICED FOR THE PHOTO'S THEY HAD BLACKENED THEM OUT WITH CARDBOARD.
I NEVER REMEMBERED THEM HAVING WRITING OR CARDS ON THEM.

SO YOU COULD PROBABLY JUST KEEP THEM SIMPLE AND BLACK

Hey Thug are you interested in heading the diplomatic envoy to North Korea? You being such the eloquant speaker could resolve the "crisis" and use your tea bag euphanism to subdue Kim JongII.

Don't mind Leo, he just doesn't get it.

By the way I waited for this thread to serve its purpose the person who started it, before I hi-jacked it. I just think that Thug needs to fill that empty spot in his heart. Crack kills my tempermental friend.
