Well guys we definitely need a current pic of 1370 at Langley.
The last time I saw it at Wright-Patterson, it had it's original preproduction tail on it.
It's very likely that it still has the original tail but just had the numbers painted on.

You know I was really surprised to see that they are putting an A-10 on display at Langley.
This is a really significant thing. Considering the A-10's "red headed stepchild" place in ACC's world, I would have never bet in a hundred years that they would display a slow mover on THAT base.
Looks like somebody at the puzzle palace is waking up!
Cheers

For some reason 71-1370 didn't have a tail section so the AFM shipped a tail from 79-223 which still has the tail code EL for England AFB painted on it. But wait, 79-223 is still flying with an active duty unit so the tail at Langley must have been removed from 79-223 for some reason and shipped with 71-1370. Or did the AFM paint the tail of 71-1370 to look like an active duty A-10 and put 79-223 on it? Do you remember how it was painted when you saw it?

The only A-10 left at the AFM is 78-0681... now do you understand?

Dur.....otay. Tank you. Me no confused now.

OOPS.

Now, to answer your question. Last time I was at the AFM, I'm sure that 1370 was painted as an operational bird. I've got some pics at home of it, I'll try and find them over the weekend and get them scanned and posted on Monday.

OK, Dice!

I know for a FACT that 80-223 is still flying! I got a few pics of myself crewing her in the land of Afghan's. She had the original "Flying Tigers" logo on the ASIP panel.

I keep remembering 'cause I kept thinking it was one of the 2 we lost last January. (You have those on your list right Dice?)

If you read one of my posts above I told Goose both 223s are still flying 79 1nd 80 with the same base. I think it's going to turn out 71-370 was painted to look like an avctive jet (79-223) but is really the complete 370, I have pictures on the way this week.

I have all crashed jets listed and account for but unsure about one, see my new post on 71-1369.

I think that's the case. I remember I've been to the AFM web site, and saw photos of the prototype bird painted to look like 9223. Knew it was still the prototype bird because of the odd tail section, things like that.

I remember going to the AFM web site when the prototype was still there, and seeing it was painted to represent 79-0223. But, it's been a while since I saw that photo, so I could be mistaken. But, that's what I remember.
