You were a trouble shooter for systems on the F-14. I am a civie punk. I think I know who will win that debate(hint-It's not me). You could have this debate or you can do the equivalent and kickbox with a puppy.

Tomcat, my only intentions for bringing up the Hornet were just to give my opinion(and that's all it is) to what Sniper brought up. Forgive me if I disgraced the shrine, that wasn't my intention. I should've thought twice.

Here's why I have my stance:
A CURRENT confirmed test pilot of the two planes has stated he'd prefer a SH than a D. I can give you links upon links of this man's educated opinion.
I've weighed the two arguments and since I'm not in the know and get info mainly from word of mouth and -I have a proclivity to favor the one's with current experience. I have now heard three fighter pilots, including Mudd give accolades.

Also, Why bother starting Another one? There's 500 topics about this subject on this forum including 4 that are current; I sometimes get so confused I don't know which thread I've replied to, they're all the same!
I've said just about all I know on the subject and I'm just about getting pooped of this. THE HORSE IS OUT OF THE BARN. THE TOMCAT IS OUT-HORNET IN. LIFE IS NOT FAIR.
Safe to say, the execs at Grumman are not going to read this and order back the Tomact's tooling process.
In addition, you said it yourself once: Our best pilots will perform spectacular in any airframe so it really doesn't matter what you give them.

Plus, how can we have a fuitful debate the two planes when one just come into IOC. It would mainly be speculation on my part. Let's wait another, oh...5 years?

And Let me be the first to say that if the new aircraft fails to do the job (hope noone wants that because those are our men up there- everyone wish them the best) I will be the first to concede. If the opposite holds true, will you do the same?<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Keep it up Tomcat, we need this discussion as a reminder so the USAF don't repeat this mistake with the F-22/JSF.

Ah relax Boomster.........I am just being the well spoken diplomat that I am (;

Besides........You live in MO, I would expect that you are a McAir, now Boeing fan. My proximity to Renton WA, has nothing to do with my loyalty, if Boeing had a viable replacement for the F-14, I would be its biggest advocate.

If Lockheed added VG wings and a second seat to the F-22, and Hughes derived an advanced Pheonix variant to use on the aircraft, I would agree........

I was talking about the F-35C silly wabbit.

Besides, it would be easier to design a new plane than to add a VSG wing to the F-22.

That's a non-starter.

Lockheed and Grumman Aerospace had proposals for a VG carrier ATF. The F-35 will be an improvemnt in the strike role and acm arena, but will not be the maratime air superiority aircraft the F-14D is.

Well, IF it works, the F-35 will be better than the F-14D in one significant way- it will hunt without being seen.

Anytime you are approaching a US CVBG, and you are within the AAW radius of a BARCAP F-35C, death could be mere seconds away- your first warning coming when your RWR tells you there is an active AMRAAM emitter less than 10 miles out.

Hehehe, pucker time ;)
