Glad to find this site!!

Don't get much time to spend on the internet.

A long time aviation buff, I never had any special feelings either way about the hog. Everything changed 6-8 years ago at the Lone Star Flight Museum airshow in Galveston, Tx.

The first big rush for me that day was seeing my first P-38 (Putt-Putt Maru?) blast accross the deck and pull up to about 70 degrees (engines not even changing pitch of sound) and dissappear.

Shortly afterward a couple of A-10's swooped in from nowhere and simultaneously banked HARD, went around 360 degree circle and disappeared. The announcer said that 360 could have been executed in the Astrodome. While I attributed a good deal of Texas bullcr*p to that statement, I was none the less awed. They swooped in for some more low level demonstrations, and I was buzzing.
First up close look was next year - one was parked at Wings over Houston airshow. After talking at length to the 2 pilots, I was
fully converted.

Nice to find kindred spirits.

Hey welcome aboard Marine!

We don't have any other jarheads here so it's good to get the USMC represented at last.

Now let's hear the hymn! ;)

Discharged 2/81.
Did not have much USMC stuff except some 782 gear I stashed away in a closet for years.

After 9/11 the soldier in me was stirred up. The old saying "once a Marine, always a Marine" is true. It all came back to me in an instant.

I called the recruiting office and asked if they would take a 45 year old prior service, that I could take a desk job to free up a young whippersnapper. The fella on the phone said "you wouldn't beleive how many old Marines have called in saying basically the same thing.

I got a couple of bumper stickers and put on my work truck.
Then an old buddy sent me a NICE USMC flag, I hung it in my workshop.

I got a USMC tie tack and wear it to church every Sunday. Gotten a number of comments from it and bumper stickers while at jobsites.

The other day I stopped at a different convenience store to grab a six-pack after work. The clerk (Arab?) had the newspaper opened to a page with a picture of a squad of hogs on the tarmac. I mentioned that those planes were some bad S.O.B.'s The fella asked me what I meant.
Suffice it to say there were some bad vibes. Oh well, this IS AMERICA.
Thanks for listening to my ramblings. Semper Fidelis

I have only two words to say concerning Iraq - Let's Roll!

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,

Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Reformed? Wotchoo talkin' bout?

O.K., if you mean being old w/ wife & kids I love, going to church to give thanks to the creator, etc.. I'm cool w/that.

Lemme tell ya if you don't know - basic training ain't what it was "back in the day" (1975 for me.) All branches of the military, including our Beloved Corps have become "politically correct", wimpified. Ask any Marine who has been in basic training in the past few years about the "Time Out" cards each recruit carries. Geeez, gimme a break.

Don't get me wrong - the Corps is still the best in the world. I WILL venture to say the IQ of the marine today IS higher on average than ("back in the day.)

But then, nothing is like back in the old days.

Oh yeah, thanks, it's nice to be aboard.

Nope sorry the Time Out cards were a rumor that never took place. All recruits in all services have the right to private consultation or a timeout to help them refocus on the Plan ofthe day.

I spent time at both MCRD San Diego and 1st MarDive infantry school speaking with Students and recruits. I may have left the Corps in the mid 80's. But my contact is still tight. I still attend the Field Mess nights with the Reconnaisance community every year.

The marines comeing out of MCRD are just as diciplined and motivated as they have been since its inception. Irresponsible abuse and torture is not a respectable method. The marines have fought valiantly in afghanistan and other places around the Globe. They will continue to do so as our nation calls on them.

Jarhead you may or may not have recieved hazeing or physical assault as a training tool. This doent make you any better than Young Men and women earning the Title of a U.S. Marine.

Im still a marine to Heart, I just upgraded my abilities and Vantage point. you cant reform a marine. Warfighting is a perishable skill that requires continuous growth and improvement.

I spent my college years in the Marine Reserve. Tons of great opportunities and deployments during the summer while earning a degree at home through the education season.

How many guys in the frat house can say they have been snooping and pooping in the Phillipines pulling ops on the commies or on the Thai border for the summer.
