I'm building the above model to represent a Hog in Afganistan or Iraq (Desert Storm 2?) it is equiped with LASTE and GPS dome.

http://www.argo.net.au/jbwhole/reviews/trumpeter/tr02214.htm

The kit contains
2 x AIM-9 L/M,1 x ALQ 119 Pod, 2 x BLU-27, 2 x Mk 20 Rockeyes,
6 x CBU 52,1 x GBU 10 Paveway, 1 x GBU 8, 6 x AGM 65, 12 x Mk 82 LDGP
and 2 x MER's but no TER's (I'd need TER's I think) plus center fuel tank.

What would be a typical loadout for say bunker busting and tank busting? Would I have to obtain other ordanance such as JDAM's etc.
sorry I'm no expert and what camo schemes are currently used in the
middle east, anyone have some pics from Afganistan or Iraq?
Thanks in advance.

Eric, I’ve seen servile different loads but a good standard load (using what you have) would be, nothing on stations 1 & 11, rocket pods on 2 & 10, one IR and one EO Maverick on 3 & 9 respectively, and one MK-82s on each of stations 4-5-7-8.

All A-10 are painted the standard “compass gray” includinf the ones deployed to operation Enduring Freedom. For pictures go to the AF website at www.af.mil click on the tab at the very top of the page called “search Air Force Link” and type in A-10 thunderbolt II.

Good luck and send so me some pictures when you finish and I may post them on my website.

If you want to make the model accurate for Afghanistan, the load Dice describes is correct. For "Desert Storm 2", you need to add an ECM Pod on station 1 and two AIM-9s on 11. Depending on which unit you are replicating, it will be slightly different configurations, but what Dice says will be close enough. Mission will also dictate different configurations, such as a SUU-25 with illumination flares at night or CBU-87/89 for CAS and CSAR. FAC-A missions will go heavy on rockets and light on bombs. No unit is flying with a centerline tank in combat, they have no foam to prevent explosions if hit.

As far as the weapons you listed, all AIM-9s are "M" now, no ALQ-119s, they are all converted to -184s now. BLU-27 is napalm (none in the inventory), Mk-20 and CBU-52 are no longer available, we don't drop GBU-10s (2000 lb laser guided bomb) but we do employ GBU-12s (500 lb) regularly. I think a GBU-8 is either a Bullpup or Walleye missile, at any rate neither are certified on the A-10 nor are they in the inventory. They require a datalink, which don't carry. A-10s use TERs, MERs were only used during the test many years ago. Not certified on the A-10 now. For the AGM-65 Mavericks, it would depend on what type of Maverick (A, B, D, G, G2, H, or K) whether you would carry one or three per LAU-88A/A. It would also depend on what base you were from whether the LAU-88A/A could carry two or three missiles. Most common is a single missile on a LAU-117 on stations 3 and 9.

Hope this helps.

g'day
I'm doing the same model
but i've decided to paint the traditional cams with the "flying tigers"
I'm not to sure about what weapons I'm going to use yet but I figure that i'l work that out later.
some of you hawg pilots will be able to answer some questions:
I've got the game 'A-10 cuba' and in it you can use agm-88's and helfires. does the a-10 ever use that kind of weaponry.
secondly
I live in melbourne australia and I'm wondering why hogs never come out to us and show off.
I mean heaps of poeple I know like the hog as well.
maybe some of you guys have some influence...

Anyone know if the AN/ALQ-131 has ever been used on the hog?

I have several model kits that will include this ECM pod along with the 119.

thanks

As fas as i know neither the hellfire no the harm has been certified for the a-10. i read in a book that hellfires could be used, but i'm pretty sure thats not true...would have been a nice and light alternative to the agm-65 though...
I don't know abou the ecm-pods, sorry, you'd have to ask a pro on that one...

Hey Yamato, AN/ALQ-131 ECM pod was used by European-based Hogs in Gulf War 1. So this is load for the Hog.

sorry i have to correct a strange german name here, it´s Spangdahlem. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

As far as I know, the 81st FS A-10´s transferred from RAF Bentwaters to Spangdahlem at the end of 1992.

THE LOADS DURING DESERT STORM WERE SQUADRON DIFFERENT TOO

THE BEACH LOADED CBU'S AND MK-82'S ON TERS,THE TIGERS DIDNT.BUT WE BOTH USED LAU-88'S WITH 2 AGM-65'S EACH BOTTOM RAIL AND OUTSIDE RAIL,INBOARD RAIL WASNT USED BECAUSE OF THE "FRAGGING THE FLAPS".AND THEN WITH A EO AND IR EACH.
THAT WAS A TYPICAL DAYLIGHT LOAD
