or perhaps other pilots would have a good idea.
we've been discussing this photo on another website trying to determine if it was taking off or landing. I was hoping someone could make an accurate guess based on flap and slat config. A lot of heat behind the aircraft, but none of the characteristic afterburner flames. Also the F-111 is pretty heavy on TO, maybee too heavy for such a serious upset so close to the tarmac?

Seems a bit out of kilter to have just taken off a few seconds before the pic was taken.

that F-100 clip is known as the "Sabre Dance" and yeah it's kind of sickening to watch.

about the F-111 pic, I'm told now that it was on takeoff and a gust of wind from the left, just rolled the Vark over into a smokin pile.

Definitely on take-off. High angle of attack, and the placement of the cameraman are what I'm looking at.

After taking a second look, I'd have to say that the pilot was intending to turn sharply on takeoff. Look at the positioning of the elevons, and once again, the position of the cameraman.

No question! its a takeoff -I'm 100% sure-. The F111 guys do this kind of takeoff all the time -normally at Airshows-.

I've got film of it doing this at the
'Australian International Airshow 2003'.
