Dice, the stars are for 5 combat missions. I want to research the stars for Gooses jet between the Gulf War and this one and get it painted for him. By the way I have a bunch of pics of 166 loaded if you still want them. Just let me know where to send them.

Thanks Hawg166, one more question, why, if you use a star for every five combat missions then what is the single bomb icon for, a single mission?

I would love to have a couple of pics for my website and one nice one for next months wallpaper, you can send them to...

Dice the bomb is for missions that you expended on. There were a lot of missions where there was action right below and someone else was working the situation. AWACS may not have cleared you hot in on a target because of congestion or inability to get briefed by the aircrews working the scene. I know a couple of instances where my pilot came back laughing because he was working somewhere and a couple of Vipers came in and said they had 5 minutes of gas and where did we want them to expend. Our pilots told them to leave because it would take ten minutes to explain the scenario. From what I understand there was alot of that especially with the guys down south. If anyone else reads this and they have any instances of the Spec-ops guys saying they didnt want Vipers or their A-10's calling them off feel free to chime in. I love it when Army guys tell the Viper drivers to get lost.

OK Hawg166 I think I got it now, each star is five missions flown, each bomb is a mission where something was fired or dropped..makes sence..thanks!

We only really had a problem with the Vipers being short on gas at the beginning of the war. About a week into the war, we finally got the fuel pipeline restored and were able to tank every mission. Once we got past that obstacle, the Vipers showed up with 15 minutes instead of 5. Not much, but still better than nothing when Ramrod or KMart requires an LGB that we don't carry.
