I'm no aerodynamicist but I've been running some numbers and noticed some
interesting things.

The SU-27 is credited with being more manueverable than F-15 and yet F-15 has a higher TTW number (except at gross) and a lower wing loading by a large margin (again except at gross). The SU should develope more body lift than Eagle, but at best it looks like a wash at low altitudes, with Eagle turning better than SU at altitude.
Any thoughts? Am I missing something large here? The Su's lerx's and higher aspect wing should make a positive differance at low level and low speeds but I dont think it would make up for the other numbers. Eagle should have a 20% better wing loading and about a 14% better TTW number.

Most SUs have a whole lot less hours on them though.

Can a C still turn like they could when they were new???

Most figures do not include the fusealage contributed lift factor into the wing loading...There is a drag penalty associated with this lift, that is overcome by a high T:W ratio...So while the fusealage wing configuration on the SU-27 would errode some of the F-15's wing loading advantage, the higher thrust to weight ratio of the Eagle would negate that...A stripped down version of the SU-27 did break alot of the F-15's Streak Eagles records, but from everything I have read, the F-15C is a superior air combat system....Superior avionics, sitational awareness, and agility.

The USN does use the F-14 to mimic the SU-27 in DACT, variable geometry notwithstanding I hear the SU-27 and F-14 have similiar agility characterisitics. I know this is a F-15/Flanker thread, but the F-14 and SU-27 have comparable strengths and weaknesses against the F-15 from what I have been told...

as far as I know that "record" flight is still in question as to weather it had rocket boosted assist in some part of the flight, TTW of Flanker is not even close to F-15 and Streak Eagle weighed some 1800lbs less than a standard Eagle.

both planes have Fusalage widths about 20% of total wingspan, and I have tried to account for the compression lift/drag that the Flanker tunnel developes in my flight models. So far Eagle wins high, Flanker wins low, and it's every man for himself in between lol.

does it really matter if the SU27 is better than F15, or the otherway around, hey if it came to a fight with Eurochicken, the pilot of both the F15 and SU27 will not even have to fire a shot, the mere sight of such an aircraft will cause eurochicken to do a 180 degree 9g turn!!! lol

on a serious note, those two aircraft are so closely matched, it will be down to the skill of the pilot to determine whether its the flanker or the eagle that is going on the down elevator!

give the SU27 the same engines as used in the eagle, and the same weapons, then the SU27 will be thrust 2 generations forwards and become a REAL threat.

the Flanker engines develope more thrust than the Eagle.

that may be so, but i think the F15's are probably more reliable.
