"Extending a soldier's active duty is within Army authority, since the enlistment contract carries an eight-year obligation, even if a soldier signs for only three or four years of active duty. "

That's the bottom line.

DEPENDING ON IF THEY ALREADY FILLED THEIR 8 YEAR COMMITTMENT,IF THEY HADNT SERVED 8 YEARS THEN THATS THE FACTS OF IRR,BUT ON THE OTHER HAND AFTER YOUR 8 YRS YOU SHOULD BE FREE TO LEAVE.
WE HAD THIS DISSCUSSION BEFORE

BUT TO BACK UP WHAT THEIR SAYING THE ILLINOIS NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVE UNITS DID THE SAMETHING HERE,TOLD THEM EITHER RE-ENLIST IN A CERTAIN UNIT OR DISCHARGE AND BE STOP LOSSED AND PUT IN THE FIRST UNIT GOING BACK TO IRAQ.
THEY GOT CAUGHT AND HAD TO DO SOME BACK PEDDLING.

THE BIG QUESTION IS REALLY "HOW LONG IS LONG ENOUGH?" THE BIGGER PICTURE SHOULD BE WHY IS THIS SOLIDER LEAVING AND NEVER WENT TO IRAQ AND THIS ONE DID AND CANT GET OUT AND IS GOING RIGHT BACK?
I THINK TOURS SHOULD DETERMINE WHO GETS HELD AND WHO GOES.
CAREER SOLIDERS ARE GOING TO STAY NO MATTER WHAT.

MONEY TALKS,B.S. JUST PILES UP.
