Well, at long last it's finally coming in... (I'm the Inventory Manager at a Ford dealership, incase anybody cared)

Our first (and presumably our only) Ford GT.

Ours is going to be Torch Red with ebony leather interior. But enough about the glitz and glamour, here's the good stuff:

An intercooled, Eaton Model 2300 screw-type supercharger (12 psi of boost) sits on top of a 5.4L DOHC V-8. It comes off the showroom floor with 550 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque. Couple that with a Ricardo 6-speed manual transmission and you're halfway to understanding how this thing eats Ferraris for lunch.

0-60 in 3.3 seconds, a rolling 5-60 in 3.5 seconds, and it turns in the 1/4 mile in 11.6 seconds (at 128 mph).

It's probably because I'm an employee and this is an extremely limited-edition car line, but I'm beyond excited about this one.

Oh, and the best part? Let's see...

McIntosh AM/FM stereo with <b>single</b> CD? $4000
Light-Weight Forged Aluminum wheels? $3500
Red painted brake calipers? $750
<b><u>GAS-GUZZLER TAX?</u></b> $2100

Total MSRP for this bad boy?

...

...

$151,595.00

(And good luck finding one for that. George Foreman just bought one in Houston, paid $250,000 for it, then had it shrink-wrapped and put on a flatbed truck to take home.)

ford screwed up there. Place it right out of range of every one. I think they may have killed it them selfs. I don't care if it is meant to compete with a ferrii, it's a Ford and I should be able to buy it!

OK....WTF! I own 3 SVT cars.

Hook a Brotha up!

I need a Crate Engine preferebly the 03 Cobra, or a Mach engine.

Doing a Swap into the Wifes 96 GT. I have heard rumors that more 4V engines will be liquidated into the market soon.

Unfortunately Ford didn't Kill anything. They're only building a few thousand for 05 and 06. Then they are done. It's not the quality of the build or anything "extra" special in the car. It's the limited production that drives the price. That's what places it out of range of most commoners like myself. That's why I'm going this route.

Looks better than the original and faster too! Screw Shelby!

Let me clarify, Mudd... I'm the <i><b>New Car</b></i> Inventory Manager (not the Parts Manager). Sorry 'bout that, but I don't think I can hook anybody up (our GM just took away all employee discounts on parts/service anyway).

As for "screwing up," as Hogmender said, this isn't a "for everybody" car... this is a vintage/Ford racing enthusiasts' car. Jay Leno bought the first (actually second, but first open to the public) GT for $550,000... he's not complaining. And for the record, apparently George Foreman paid $300k, not the $250k I was told before.

Anyway, yes I know the price tag's a little outrageous (a HELLUVA LOT outrageous when you see the Ford oval stamped on it), but it's a prestige thing. Along with being a beast on the track, its purpose is to turn some more heads to Ford's car market, which they're working 'fast and furious' (heh, couldn't resist) to get revamped and running again.

Just this year they've released the new Five Hundred, a family sedan type that's replacing the Crown Vic (it drives nice and it's not too bad looking), the Freestyle (a car/SUV/wagon-crossover wannabe thing... don't really know about this one), and the redesigned throwback-styled new '05 Mustang. This one's my favorite - has styling cues from old fastbacks of the 60s, a beefier stock engine (300 hp in the GT) and a smoother transmission.

Oh well, like I said, maybe I'm just more excited because of being surrounded by all the hype on a daily basis... but I still believe that Ford coming out with a "true" race car is a sweet thing...

I feel if they had another model of the GT-40 without alot of that high end stuff to kick down the price they could dominate the market.

The problem with that is the fact that the people wanting to collect the car for its nostalgic value would be pissed if they got a car that was selling for $200k+, then Ford released a "watered-down" version for $30-50k or so.

Besides, how often do you see a new car with 550 HP listed for less than $150k?

It's called the Viper SRT-10. ;)

It's under $100,000.

500 hp, not 550. Granted it's got 25 more lb-ft of torque, but everybody and their brother can get a Viper... they've been in production for years now (since '91). When only a handful of Ford GTs are going to be produced, that's where the $$$ comes from.

Oh well... I'll drop it for now. I'm still itching to see ours in person though. I can't even place orders for any extras at this point; the allocation's coming straight from FMC.

Recently I've been disappointed with ford. They haven't come up with a lot of original designs recently. However, I am very impressed with Chrysler. We recently bought a new dodge ram 2500 with the Hemi. They actually designed the thing to be worked on! They put all the grease points and the oil filter in a spot where you can get to it easily. It drives great looks good, and hell it has POWER. I spun out up hill with a boat on the back! Chrysler has start coming up great designs that really appeal. I think ford may be behind the ball. But nothing can compare to a stang.

Why would you want a slow car though? ;)

I'll take this over any stang, any day...

<img src="http://members.aol.com/jameslook/porsche/Image05.jpg" border=0>

The mighty AWD Porsche 996 Turbo. :)

And this is one Porsche i'd much rather have than ANY car on the road, pretty much that's ever been made...

<img src="http://www.autointell.com/sports_cars/porsche/gt-aussen-cut.jpg" border=0>

The all carbon fibre 660 horsepower V-10 powered Carrera GT.

In the meantime, i can settle for this one...

<img src="http://www.tenringhosting.com/ViewImage.aspx?PID=823fae2c-1b12-4fe2-bfae-f8873b033fbc" border=0>

The awesome 4.7 liter, DOHC, 16V, all alloy, fuel injected, V-8 Hemi powered 1983 Porsche 928S. The fastest production car in the world at the time. :)

Life is good.

Got our first '05 Mustang GT a couple days ago:

<img src="http://www.fordvehicles.com/2005mustang/images/pho/mst05_expopup_2.jpg" border=0>

Sticker's about $27.5k, and it comes stock with 300hp from the 4.6L DOHC V-8 (it's the old Cobra engine minus the supercharger). Sounds beautiful too. Mineral Gray, sitting on the showroom now... drove it around the block and man, this thing is sweet.
