Hey guys, I post mostly on the Aicraft Resource Center, a modeling website for aircraft, of course. I recently finished my third A-10 in 1/72 scale. The three you see here are an Academy, Revell of Germany, and Italeri kit. The RoG kit being just a reboxing of the Italeri. Feel free to give critiques, and if you have none, just enjoy the pics!

First up is the Academy kit, which is really a rescribed Hasegawa kit.

This is the RoG kit, which was a PITA to mask and paint, but the results are well worth it I think. It's Stephanie Ann, from the NO ANG, Desert Storm vintage:

And I just finished this a few days ago, a Spang bird:

they all look nice! The first 1/72 Hawgs I built were Monograms( 4 or 5 of them) and were a pain due to all the filling needed at the wing/fusalage join. The next one was an Academy and was tre schweet, just fell together :-). I think I still have another one in the box.
What airbrush are you using? I have a very old Badger 350F but my main AB is the slightly less old Testors Professional ( Aztec), LOVE IT!

I use a Paasche VL. Rock solid airbrush, robust and has sevred me for many years. Parts are cheap, easy to clean, and produce great results, as you see here. I used to use an Aztek....until I reached the age of reason...
Sorry, just can't stand Azteks, for many reaons.

Yeah, I knew to stay away from the mono kits in 1/72. In 1/48 however, the R/M kit is the way to go. In fact I have one in the works that I put no the back burner for now. Bu the shapes are good, and the raised rivet detail is very nice and appropriate. Now if it was only recessed, so I didn't have to rescribe....aye what a chore!

those are great, I'm the same with you. I've made about 20 models during my Junior HS summer break. I made a F-105 for my father in law a few years back and noticed I just don't have the patience anymore.

Hey, whatever floats your boat guys. I havs seen that Armour stuff, and from a modeler's standpoint, it's pretty basic. However....those are the best diecasts I've ever seen, their quality keeps getting better, and I think they're perfect for guys, like you say that don't have the time, but want the quality.

Believe me...I wish I had the talent to put out models like those above...I have to Monogram 1/48 that I want to do. I want to have models of my two jets (one from Moody & one from Osan) but doubt I'll have the time...and if I do...doubt it will look good...but I'm eventually going to try (I hope)

The R/M 1/48 A-10 is best in scale, to be sure, but ti does taka lot of work to make it look right, even for an exerienced modeler. So I feel your pain. Btw...I also do comission work ;)

I still have a model from 2 yrs ago of a F-111G I believe. Bought it right after I made the F-105. Thought I would use my paint up

Still sitting in the box unopened.

It seems you really need a decent airbrush kit to get that real nice detail!

I don't think there's an advanced modeler out that that won't tell you that a good airbrush is essential in making a good looking model. It's an investment really. And when it works, it works. All the shading in my models was done with an airbrush, and the panel lines received a wash. Thought tha camo scheme on the Euro 1 hog was done with paper masks and tac worms. Works like a charm that way, but you still need an airbrush to apply it.

Welcome to the board, Habu! Excellent models, hope you become a regular and can provide us with some insights and experiences regarding your hog-modeling. What kinds of paints, fillers, decal sheets, after market sets, and references did you use? Any chance of conning you into making a trip up to the Seattle show this April so I could see them first hand?

Thanks!
As to what stuff I use? Aw man....too much to list in one post. It all depends on the actual model being built. In the case of these three models, the only special things I added were my own custom decals. Otherwise they're completely OOB (out-of-box). The ordnance comes mostly from the kits, except a couple Mk.82s from a weapons set. All were painted with Model Master enamels, using my Paasche VL airbrush.

How'd you make the custom decals? Standard inkjet? Alps printer?
