I am proud to present to everyone the newest, and in my not so humble opinion, the very best door art in the Air Force. I had decided I wanted to do an Ice Age theme for several reasons. 1: the story I posted a while back about when I saw the movie; 2: it is one of my favorite movies; 3: while everyone else is always does bad ass, mean, tough, killer type doors, so an and so forth, I've always leaned more towards the funny side of everything; 4: It's Alaska, duh; and 5: I thought the style of the way the guy I was going to have paint it had done his previous work, and all these reasons fit perfectly.
I found some pictures online of Sid, Scrat and the style of lettering and gave them to the artist along with a layout of how I thought it would look best. I told him, I've seen your other work, just make it look good, you've got plenty of artistic freedom.
Turning the acorn in Scrats arms into a BDU-33 and in Scrat's dream into an acorn bomb was his idea, as was changing the icicles in Sid's mouth to 30mm rounds.

It is also one of mine favourite cartoon movies.

I had also see for the first time your website. Nice Cheerleaders, but I couldn't each photo open. The other doorarts are also great.

Jackb, might I suggest you get a ladder bumper pad on your door to protect the artwork. From the pictures I have of pry doors on that aircraft they have taken a pretty good beating from the ladder, I would hate to see your art get damaged by the ladder because you’re missing a simple pad.

The thread I tried to explain why when I saw the movie Ice Age is so memorable is http://forum.a-10.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8209 but it was really a you had to be there to get it moment. I man, ask Hitler, it was over three years ago and its still hilarous. The other reasons are the ones above the picture in this thread.
Good idea about the bumper pad, Dice. None of the jets have one here, but I remember a few at Osan did, and even a few at Pope (got to protect those great blank grey doors). The bottom right corner of this door is where it will take the most abuse, you can see the door was dented a bit, but its hard to tell it that picture. I will put a pad on it first thing Monday morning. Actually, the next time the jet will fly will be to Depot, so I'm counting on you, Dice, to get with the folks you know over there and keep it safe. I will re-e-mail the pics in a minute.

I'll see about getting the full size image you sent added to the website as soon as I get a chance.

Another crew chief (new guy here so he doesn't know how well that door fits me) was mocking my door as I was puttign it on the jet yesterday! He said "yeah, when I get assigned to a jet I was thinking about putting Finding Nemo or Shrek on the door" all sarcastically. I exclaimed, Dude, Shrek was the only other thing I considered for this door. I'm so glad I went with Ice Age. I really couldn't be happier. "For the record", here are two other scenes I thought about, still Ice age, but different things happening.
<img src="http://www.geocities.com/crewchiefsmakeithappen/conceptsid1.jpg" border=0> <img src="http://www.geocities.com/crewchiefsmakeithappen/conceptsid2.jpg" border=0>
I liked the first one the way it was, but the second one I would have had the rhinos be replaced by an A-10 getting ready to strafe Sid.

These are the two pictures I went with
<img src="http://www.geocities.com/crewchiefsmakeithappen/conceptsid3.jpg" border=0> <img src="http://www.geocities.com/crewchiefsmakeithappen/conceptscrat.jpg" border=0>
The one of Sid with the icicle fangs wasn't in the movie, I know, me and Hitler both re-watched the movie to find that scene. I just found it when I googled "ice age" images, and it just looked great so I went with it. Like I said, I really couldn't be happier the way the door came out. I could, in fact I practically am, look at that picture of it all day.

Jack, I love this door art. As I replied in my email to you this is a great movie and the theme just seems to fit the unit up there, not even knowing your background to the story.

I'll start working on your skin this week!

Thanks again
