The P39 also had a 37mm in the nose with two 30 cals and four fifty cals. it was in the eastern theater the A10 of its day. The Russians loved it and ther panzer corps feared it.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

The Brits didnt particularly care for it but the Russians got nearly 5,000 of them as I recall. Airacobra was I think the only US fighter to have a door rather than a canopy that opened. Had the big 37mm cannon shooting right through the center of the spinner. And in case anyone is wondering, yes the engine is BEHIND the pilot lol

A 9mm MAY expand, but a 45 will NEVER shrink!

The Mid-Alantic Air Museum are rebuilding the only P-61 that will be flyable. They are looking for an upper forward 4 gun (Mark 3 .50 cal)turret froma B29 to put in their aircraft. Except for the tear drop shaped dome, the turret is identical., made by the General Railway Signal Corp. If anyone knows where there is a turret, fire me off an email or ring me so I can pass on the information.

Kawasaki also made an aircraft te KI-11 I believe it was. The nird was reported to be excellent except for bad bearing technology that made them burn out quickly. I believe it was the Tony

Ki-100 Hien "Tony"

Which was a radial-engined development of the Ki-61 Hien "Tony" originally with an in-line engine:
