I dont know about the "LightingII" name they had so many more that could of been better.
I guess Lockheed wanted to make sure the names stayed in the Family.

Lightning II as an official name wouldn't be too bad considering it's replaceing the Thunderbolt II (and various other aircraft). However I'm wondering what the un-offical name will be once the guys on the ground start working it.

F-15 - gloryfied F-4
F-16 - Lawndart, Electrican's Nightmare
C-5 - F.R.E.D

capche-capche da - we go forward together

Damn right. No matter what its official name is, it will be mocked badly. Examples: http://www.csd.uwo.ca/~pettypi/elevon/gustin_military/nickname.html

Assault is a type of behavior, not a type of rifle.

More likely is that they still had the plaques and bumper stickers left over from when they named the F-22 the "Lightening II". Unimaginative morons, I guess we're lucky they didnt name it "Eagle II" or "Phantom III"!!

What do you knwo it as? I've heard C-5 people call it fred a million times, but never knew what it was short for until I saw that age. Or at least thought I knew.

Jack change FRED from Fantastic Ridiculous Economic Disaster
to
FRED ------ ------------F---ING Ridiculous Economic Disaster

All the time I spent in MAC never once heard the first version only the last and if you ever had to work on it Their's your answer.

I was assigned to a C-130 outfit. Never heard it called HOG

HERKY JERKY, DIRTY THIRTY,HERKY TURKEY.HERKY BIRD a couple of choice adjectives .

I see where they call a C-141 a STAR LIZARD never heard that one either its all ways been "Trash Hauler"

I would like to know where they got their info from.

Standard journalistic garbage maybe?

You got some <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle> sitting in an office somewhere writing about something he has no knowledge of!

Just a thought!

Fat Albert gets thrown around as a name for various transports as well, heard both the C-130 and the C-5 refered to as "Fat Alberts" and I believe it is the official name of the C-130 used by the Blue Angels.

Oh, OK. I kind of figured that it was a cleaned up version F-ing -> Fantastic. But then when Lil Hitler said that's not wat he heard I thoguth it was way off.
The only thing I ever heard called Fat Albert was the Blue Angels C-130.
Trash Hauler is another good generic cargo plane nickname.

The C-141 was the only one I ever heard called a "Trash Hauler"

Fat Albert was a name the USAF always put into their "Articles" the crewchief and his C-5 he jokinglly call's the "FAT ALBERT" he was working etc............. was a common story line.

But on ENROUTE, C-141 was a Trash Hauler, C-5 was a FRED and a C-130 was a "Herky Bird" or "Dirty Thirty"
But one name they all used alot was

BROKE DICK!!!!!!!!!!<img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle>
But being a CrewChief on C-141'S its a "TRASH HAULER"

The C-21'S ,C-12'S ,C-140B's and the CT-39A's were all called
"TEENIE WEENIE AIR TAXI'S" you can spell the "Nick Name"
Then they made us Clean it up to "TEENIE WEENIE AIRLINE's"

I guess its what base or "Writer " puts in.

I had my money on something ghey like "Lightning II". Whoever decides these things never fail to disappoint. I was pulling for "Turbinator", myself.

I'd go with Lighting II as long as he doesnt change the uniforms again and you have another " McPeak" movement <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/madani.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_furious.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/spit.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_puke.gif border=0 align=middle>

I thought Gen Creech was the only one that had the hang-ups with colors and stuff?

I remember the control tower having to be repainted at England prior to his arrival after I first got there, because it wasnt the proper "Creech" color!

Yes you are correct Cajun.
I remember hearing it always called "Creech Brown". I heard it was a thing of his wifes or something like that, but he took the heat for it.
Gen Creech also has passed on, I believe a couple years ago. If not mistaken, it was right around the time I left Vegas for the midwest, June/July '04.
I think thats the time frame, not totally sure.
