Maybe this is intresting for another topic, specially about the Aurora. I am intrested in it if it is real or not. It is surprisely that the Blackbird was out and nothing(?) new for that.

Though I have no "proof", I'd have to say the Aurora exists. I highly doubt the gov't would retire the blackbird without having a replacement... too valuable. And how long did they have the blackbird before we knew about it? Wait another 10 yrs, and they will admit it.... <img src=newicons/Whatever_anim.gif border=0 align=middle>
And I'm sure Mach 3.5 is just a warm-up for it...

The Blackbird was the first of his kind. A unique plane. So everybody was surprised. Now is it gone and in musea. After a plane like the SR-71 expect the people a better and faster stealthy plane, because they know now what a SR-71 can do.

So if the aurora can do Mach 6 (and probably more), I have no doubt the blackbird was not limited to under Mach 4..... IMHO

I saw a Popular sci/mech(can't remember which) on the shelf at the gas station. Flipped in on the article about the secret planes, and the evidence they have is things like "need not filled by current aircraft" and such. So broad anything could be getting the money.

Ignorance may be bliss, but it sure ain't fun!

The emphasis now is on surveillance rather than recon, just not a lot of need to streak in and grab a few pics of something then streak away. Sats can do most of the watching until something interesting shows up THEN they can send in an asset to stand off and watch whats going on over the course of a whole day. As airborn digital video reaches higher and higher resolution the need for high speed opticle assets is shrinking.
