This is really about F-15's but it is a Hawgism so I decree that it fits here. You Hawg folks will definetely see the humor. We are having a real hard time in our transition to our F-15's; mainly because they are boxes of shit but that is besides the point. Remember we flew Hawgs for almost thirty years. Anyway, we sent out a three ship today and one of them came back to the spot with a #2 fuel flow gauge inop. So we (the former A-10 Crew Chiefs) went into the redball mode, chalked it, shut down #1 (thats key in the story) plugged in to talk to the 3000 hour Hawg pilot turned F-15 guy, and went up the ladder. We proceeded to Bay 5 (the big bay behind the pilot ) and reset the breaker for the #2 fuel flow indicator. The pilot looked at his gauges and said that #2 was good but the left engine fuel flow had suddenly shit the bed. He had already taxied late and then the time in chocks was a few minutes so after not figuring out why the #1 was out also he called the SOF and ground aborted. Meanwhile I am still wondering how the #2 fuel flow was good when the #1 was bad. Duh everyone knows the left gauge powers the right ! Right ? Wrong ! We all laughed like hell when we (four A-10 Crew Chiefs and a pilot) figured out that you need the #1 engine running to get fuel to flow. Ah yes those were the days when you didn't have to shut down an engine to walk up a ladder to confer with your pilot. Yeah we felt pretty dumb but it really was funny. Just thought you would all appreciate that.

You think that's bad, last night one of our guys almost launched a jet with the engine covers on! The pilot was in the seat strapped in when we passed by in the truck I thought our expediter was about to have a heart attack.

 What kind of guys you got working there? Speaking of, feel like giving a friend of mine a tour? She's at "The Bag" pulling FP duty. PM me your info and I'll get it to her (btw, she's married to a DSO, so no funny business.)

Another almost 30 year A-10 unit, deployed and sending the jets home. Experienced crew chief, experienced pilot. Preflight complete, ER signed off, walkaround finished.

Pilot: Strapped in, ready to head home \"All set Chief?\"
Crew Dog: Yes sir, clear fore and aft #1 (unmistakable moan of a TF-34 starting followed by the APU unloading..crew dog starts moving to check hydraulics)
WHOOMPF!..BANG! as an unknown object is hurled across the ramp
Pilot: WHAT THE @#%$ WAS THAT?
Crew Dog: (insert every expletive known to man) Sorry sir, 'fraid I have to shut you down.

One engine change later and a new ECS cover stowed, this time having been removed BEFORE engine start, the aircraft returns home.

Those DAMN DOG HOUSE PLUGS! :x

And those \"Plugs\" for the Avionics panels\". Coming back from Kansas , one of the plugs was left in and came out into #1 on the way home, trashing the engine.

How about \"RED BALL\" \" slats inop\" all theses people running around and the new \"A1C\" crew pup goes over and \"Pulls the Slat Pin out\" . [lol]

There has always been \"Stupid mistakes\" as long as no one gets \"Hurt\" it's a WAKE-UP CALL\"

I never did it but I have heard of more than few Crew Dogs motoring the engines with intake covers on and no one at all noticed. Okay I admit it......................................I did do it once to. And no one noticed.

Billy ,

Everyone of us had a \" Brain Fart\" at least 2+ times in their time in the USAF but lucky no one got hurt in my case or even found out except \"Once\" when I was a young pup.

I had a couple of \"AB Starts\" after pushing the \"CB's in\" but that was before TEMS.
